About This Role
Data Group Inc. is seeking an IoT Engineer to support client initiatives involving connected devices, edge systems, telemetry pipelines, and cloud-integrated IoT solutions. This part-time remote role is ideal for an engineer who can design and implement reliable device-to-cloud workflows, contribute across hardware-adjacent and software layers, and work effectively with distributed delivery teams in a consulting environment.
This position is fully remote within the United States and follows a flexible part-time schedule with regular u.s. eastern time overlap.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain IoT solution components across device, gateway, cloud, and integration layers
- Implement secure and reliable device connectivity, telemetry processing, and remote management workflows
- Support proof-of-concepts and production deployments for connected-product and industrial IoT use cases
- Collaborate with software, cloud, data, and client stakeholders to translate requirements into practical technical solutions
- Troubleshoot field issues related to connectivity, device provisioning, message delivery, and platform integrations
- Contribute to API integrations, data pipelines, dashboards, and operational tooling that support IoT deployments
- Document architecture decisions, configuration standards, support procedures, and deployment notes
- Help improve scalability, observability, and security across client IoT environments
Requirements
- 4+ years of professional experience in IoT, embedded, or edge-connected systems engineering
- Strong programming skills in Python, C/C++, or Java for device, gateway, or backend integration work
- Hands-on experience with IoT protocols and messaging patterns such as MQTT, HTTP, TCP/IP, WebSockets, or CoAP
- Experience integrating devices with AWS IoT, Azure IoT, or similar cloud-based IoT platforms
- Solid understanding of telemetry ingestion, sensor data modeling, event-driven workflows, and device lifecycle management
- Experience troubleshooting connectivity, provisioning, firmware update, or field-device reliability issues
- Familiarity with Linux-based edge environments, containers, and API-driven system integrations
- Working knowledge of security practices for authentication, encryption, certificate handling, and secure device communication
- Ability to document solution flows, technical assumptions, and deployment considerations clearly for internal and client audiences
- Availability for a consistent part-time schedule with regular U.S. Eastern Time overlap
